MRCM highly commended in RCPath Achievement Awards
MRCM were delighted to be named as a Highly Commended service by the Royal College of Pathologists, in recognition of our work supporting patients across the UK who are affected by fungal infections, allergies and damp buildings. In particular they mentioned our work in the following areas:
Pyrosequencing to detect azole-resistant Aspergillus in culture-negative/PCR-positive samples
Beta-D-glucan (antigen) testing to guide antifungal prescribing as part of antifungal stewardship
Establishing the Mould Surveillance Service to assess mould in homes, workplaces and hospitals

Achievement Award winners:
- CeDARC (Sri Lanka), which allows pathologists to refer complex cancer cases at no extra cost to the patient
- Derbyshire Shared Care Pathology, which produces >50 guidelines that help service users to interpret and act on the laboratory results provided
- iHistopathology, which offers online training for pathologists in the Middle East and North Africa
- The Expert Haematology Panel on vaccine-induced immune thrombocytopenia and thrombosis (VITT), which organised meetings
