How to collect skin samples for fungal analysis

  • Swab the area with 70% alcohol (to remove creams, lotions etc)
  • Use the blunt side of a scalpel to scrape skin from the affected area
  • Take the sample from the edge of a lesion, as this is where the fungus is actively growing
  • Place inside a Dermapak
  • Label with (at minimum) patient name, date of birth, date of sampling
  • Store at room temperature
